The right Choice of jeans could make the difference March 28, 2008

I never hear of Mankind jeans. Diesel are a bit more forthcoming with unabashed self-promotion, methinks. And herein lies my inclination. I’m not a man that thrives on brand names. Quality is far more important. I’d rather buy into a product knowing it is well made, than assume (perhaps correctly) that the high price is due to the rather oversized logo emblazoned across it, and not its build quality.

So here lies the battle between the two brands. And for me, a clear winner is evident. And a quick look across the product range does much to reinforce my immediate prejudice. Diesel set themselves the task of maintaining a ‘designer’ look, a distinctive product that sells the range, and isn’t ashamed to boast of its credentials. Mankind on the other hand are almost too shy. Their jeans are just jeans. Well cut, well made, and sensible, and almost forget to tell you their name. For me, a winner.

But I’m a brand avoider, so I will say that. For people that base a proportion of their outfit on the prominence of labels, of distinctive design, and a certain predetermined style that can be guaranteed to provide a consistent image, Diesel win every time. Good luck to you, I say. And if you see me in the street, in my understated, brand-less finery, remember, I may have paid the same as you for my outfit. But I prefer not to wear the price tag.
